In 1972, the late Fr Rod Cameron O.S.A. published his first book of poems upon Aboriginal religious (“dream time”) themes.
Named The Red Land, the book (ISBN 0959899707) went into reprint a number of times, and earned a place near the top of the list of best sellers in Australian religious poetry.
At that time Fr Cameron also offered a Red Land Concert, mainly for schools. The song-writer for the Concert was Maria Power, a long-standing artistic collaborator with Fr Cameron. Maria adapted some of Fr Rod’s Red Land poems to song. In recent years she continued this work by having a CD-ROM produced under the name of Red Land Songs.
Dave Austin, OSA, Provincial of Australian Augustinians writes: “Fire Wrapped In Stone brings to life the soothing music and song of Maria Rosa enriched with the subtle haunting sounds of the Australian Bush. Inspired by the poetry of Rod Cameron, OSA, these songs remind us that “This is a land where every horizon sings!”
