Wednesday, 9 August 2017 marked the 27th anniversary of the annual Queensland Catholic Schools’ and Colleges’ Music Festival (QCMF). this four-day music extravaganza took place during 17th-20th August. It was hosted by Villanova College in the Brisbane suburb of Coorparoo, Queensland, Australia.
QCMF is the largest youth music festival of its kind in the Asia-Pacific Region. Having started in 1991 with just 43 performances from 12 local Catholic schools, this year the festival will showcase over 530 performances, featuring over 13,400 of our finest young musicians across 100 Catholic schools and colleges from around Australia. Music lovers, young and old, attended to enjoy jazz, instrumental, choral, orchestral and contemporary performances from some of our most talented school musicians.
The festival’s artistic director, Mr Michael Jones, who is Director of Music at Villanova College, said, “As a not-for-profit event, the success of QCMF each year relies on the tremendous support from our volunteers, sponsors and, of course, our local Brisbane music loving community. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the festival’s fun, family friendly atmosphere, and listen to the inspirational music produced by our country’s talented young musicians.”

Writing in the Villanova Newsletter soon after the QCMF events, Mr Michael Jones stated: “This week I would like to recognise the efforts of our performers over the weekend. May I personally congratulate all of our Villanova musicians on the manner in which we conducted ourselves both on and off stage. Your conduct, musicianship, and community mindedness made this event such a positive one for our entire team and the broader community.”
“As always, we are interested in how our ensembles fared and I am pleased with our musicianship displayed.
